Richard (Rick) Mattock
Rick is the Owner/Founder of Mattock Consulting. Started in 2016, MC specializes in advising early stage/pre-revenue companies with critical product management decisions around MVP (Minimum Viable Product), product packaging, product pricing and product roadmap. Effectively, helping software start-ups define how and why they prioritize features to ensure they bring the best product to market in the most cost- and schedule- effective way. Rick also helps more establish companies by these applying start-up techniques to re-energize stagnating development teams. He is an expert in matching expectations to investments in software solutions and explaining that relationship to business and technical stakeholders. Rick’s philosophy on successful software products includes: 3 clients does not make a market; prove early and often that you’re solving a problem consumers and businesses are willing to pay to eliminate; and, the best development teams have the clearest vision of the value of what they’re creating for their client and end users. Rick specializes in technology product strategy, product management, product planning (especially release planning), packaging and pricing, market positioning, product development, and support. He brings hands-on experience to assist with creating the tools for sales, deployment, technical support to ensure successful product launches. Rick has successfully designed, architected, and delivered SaaS, On-Premise, and Mobile products using on-shore, near-shore (Argentina), and off-shore (India) teams. Rick is an 18-year veteran of the Digital Out of Home (DOOH) / Digital Signage market. Most recently, he served as CTO, SVP Technology at RMG Networks, where he played key roles in merging the technology stacks and technology teams, for Symon Communications and RMG Networks business. RMG’s contact center and corporate communication platform are deployed in 100s of global business (over 70 of Fortune 100 companies). Prior to that, he spent 7 years at Reflect Systems, serving as the CTO, EVP Operations, where he led the growth of their Digital Signage solutions from $1 to $12 million. He and team were instrumental in deploying some of the largest and most successful retail digital signage networks including Target, Best Buy, Verizon Wireless, and GameStop. He also served as the SVP, Software Development, and Media Operations at NGN (Next Generation Networks) a successful ad-based DOOH network deployed in over 8,000 7 Eleven markets in the early 2000s. Prior to his DOOH/Digital Signage career phase, Rick was a Director, Product Management at Lotus/IBM, SoftSwitch positions, as well as software development and management roles in healthcare at Shared Medical Systems, now Siemens, and sales engineering at Symantec. He earned his MBA from Penn State Great Valley, a BA in Computer Systems Analysis and Design from St Vincent College, Latrobe, PA and BA in Art History from Penn State, State College, PA. Rick lives in Allen, TX, outside of Dallas, with his wife Jean and enjoys reading tech and fantasy books, playing guitar and mandolin (he’s a member of the BYO Musicians Network), playing tennis and biking.
